Mountain View Fire Near Buena Vista: Quick Response, Full Containment
Buena Vista, CO (July 10–11, 2025) – A wildfire ignited on July 10 in the Mountain View Estates area, just north of Buena Vista. The blaze quickly spread to approximately 60 acres, prompting mandatory evacuations in the Morrison Creek subdivision and pre-evacuation notices for areas within a 5-mile radius.
Despite active winds, crews made significant progress: by Friday morning, containment had reached 50%, and by the afternoon of July 11 the fire was declared 100% contained. Although two homes were lost, officials reported no injuries. Fire crews remained on scene through Sunday, mopping up hotspots before lifting evacuation orders and allowing staged re-entry.
Mutual-aid efforts played a critical role in rapid containment. The South Arkansas Fire Protection District and the Salida Fire Department deployed a coordinated response including:
- 🔥 Two Type 6 brush engines
- 🔥 One tactical tender
- 🔥 One division supervisor
- 🔥 One logistics unit
These units provided essential ground support, water supply, tactical coordination, and back-end logistics to conventional and aerial firefighting teams.
Thanks to swift action and well-coordinated support, the fire was fully contained within 24 hours of ignition. Mop-up operations continued through the weekend, and by July 13 residents were granted controlled re-entry into the burn area.
The Mountain View Fire showcased the value of rapid mutual aid and coordinated response. The South Arkansas Fire Protection District and Salida Fire Department’s early deployment of key apparatus and leadership resources was instrumental in protecting homes, minimizing structural damage, and ensuring public safety.
