Recent Fire Responses

The South Arkansas Fire Protection District regularly supports wildfire response efforts throughout Chaffee County and the surrounding region. Our crews are often among the first on scene, providing critical initial attack and suppression support during wildland fires—whether sparked by lightning, dry conditions, or human activity.

With the help of our specialized fleet, including brush trucks, water tenders, and Type 3 engines, we’re able to access remote terrain, protect homes and property in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), and contain fires before they spread. In partnership with the Salida Fire Department and other regional agencies, we respond rapidly to local incidents while remaining ready for deployment to larger fires across the state and nation.
