South Arkansas Fire Protection District Awarded Forest Restoration & Wildfire Risk Mitigation Grant
The South Arkansas Fire Protection District (SAFPD) is proud to announce the awarded funding through the Forest Restoration & Wildfire Risk Mitigation (FRWRM) Grant Program. This important investment will significantly enhance SAFPD's ability to reduce wildfire risk and strengthen community resilience across the District.
Through this grant, SAFPD will purchase heavy-duty equipment specifically designed to support large-scale mitigation efforts. This equipment will allow our crews to more efficiently remove hazardous fuels, reduce overgrown vegetation, and create safer conditions in high-risk areas throughout the District.
Project Goals
Over the next three years, SAFPD aims to:
- Increase public participation in wildfire mitigation;
- Expand operational capacity to conduct treatments on private lands
- Improve alignment with local, regional, and state forest health strategies.
By combining equipment investment with community engagement, SAFPD will be able to expand mitigation capacity while helping residents better understand their role in wildfire preparedness.
Building a More Resilient Community
Defensible space is one of the most effective tools available to protect homes during a wildfire. The acreage treated under this grant — along with the defensible space created and maintained — will reduce fire intensity, improve firefighter safety, and increase the likelihood of structure survivability during a wildfire event.
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity provided through the Forest Restoration & Wildfire Risk Mitigation Grant Program. This funding represents a proactive step toward safeguarding lives, property, and the natural resources that define our community.
SAFPD looks forward to working alongside our residents and partners to make meaningful, measurable progress in wildfire risk reduction over the next three years.
